Puppy rearing and socialization
At Anthracite Star, a home-based kennel, puppies are born and raised with their mother in a home environment, constantly accompanying us. From the very beginning, the puppies are exposed to the scent of humans, other dogs, and the sounds of everyday life. Each pairing of parents is planned well in advance, to ensure we are prepared for the arrival of the little ones and can organize that time accordingly.
Raising puppies is very important to me and is of key significance. Therefore, I dedicate a lot of time to each puppy individually. It can be said that I work a second job, including night shifts and overtime. All this effort ensures that the puppies are monitored from the start, resulting in their healthy and proper development and socialization.
I aim for the puppies to grow into confident and brave members of their future families. Each litter has access to a large garden where they can run and rest. As the puppies grow, we plan their first socialization trips to various places such as parks, veterinary offices, groomers, and many other interesting locations they can explore.
Our rules
I always strive to meet all the expectations of future owners. I require the signing of a reservation agreement for a puppy from a particular litter and a deposit payment – if someone withdraws, the deposit is non-refundable. After the puppies are born, I sign a purchase agreement with the new owners. I send the contracts via email so that everyone can review them.
I do not sell puppies to people about whom I know nothing. I conduct a detailed conversation with each potential owner of my puppies to understand the conditions in which the puppy will live.
I do not sell puppies to people who are not familiar with the breed I raise.
I do not sell puppies to brokers – only the future owner can have direct contact. I require that the puppy be chosen and picked up personally by the owner.
I always offer assistance and advice to future owners on raising, training, preparing the puppy for dog shows, and all other matters related to rearing.
Is it right breed for you?
The English Setter is an excellent companion for active individuals. It requires a daily dose of exercise and sufficient attention, including time spent on training and building mutual trust. A lot of patience is necessary to teach it everything that is expected.
It also makes a wonderful family dog. They love children, feel comfortable in their company, and pose no threat to them. They are sensitive and caring friends, of course under the supervision of an adult caretaker.
Remember, this is also a hunting dog – like every breed representative, it needs mental stimulation. Living conditions do not matter much; whether it's a house with a garden or an apartment in the city, the most important thing is to provide enough outdoor exercise.
As a family dog, the English Setter is not suited to being confined in a kennel. It thrives on human contact and is happiest when with people. Due to its coat, it is not suitable for living outdoors.
